August 7th -- Farewell to Morgan August 11th -- Working the cold steel night August 12th -- Another Schlumberger contact August 13th -- Lance Carroll and Lacey Baker married Once again I am writing this "posthumously" (I am going to have to look up how to spell that word -- no I am not dead, but I am writing "after the fact") from a layover. I am returning to Williston after a great week down in Florida where I was able to see a ton of friends. On the 7th, the Schlumberger coworkers said "farewell" to Morgan Meadows. Here is a picture of the event. We pretty much had a "bar-b-q" over at her house with some friends and coworkers. Armando Vianna insisted that we not have a "chips-s-q" when I suggested just bringing over some chips and burgers, so we had nice dear sausage, gourmet hotdogs, and good cut burgers. Morgan is heading off to better herself in graduate school at the Colorado University in Boulder. We all wish her the best of luck.
Well my flight leaves Minot at 11:06 AM today. Minot is about 130 miles (2 hours driving) away from my apartment in Williston. That means that I need to leave by 8:00 AM. I didn't get back to my apartment from a job till 4:00 AM. I still haven't packed -- this is what Schlumberger pays you for! Oh I forgot that today I had scheduled for "vacation". It's not that bad, I volunteered for this job, kinda knowing what would happen. But it did *pour* rain on me, and the temperature dropped to the 50s around 2:00 AM. I was pretty cold, and very wet. So I earned the money on this job.
For the 2nd time a random stranger emailed me after reading this blog. They searched for "Schlumberger lifestyle" or something similar...maybe "Schlumberger Wireline", or "Schlumberger Engineer", or "Working in Schlumberger" maybe if I put as many possible search engine inputs, I'll get tons of hits from people looking up what the lifestyle is like. Right now there is a extremely high turnover rate in the company, and to try to combat that the recruiters are trying hard to describe as accurately as possible what the lifestyle and jobs are like. Maybe I should just give them the website address of my blog? If you are out there, and want to know more information, or just saying "thanks for the info", don't hesitate to email me from the "feedback" page of my website!
"Ooh baby baby it's a wild world....It's hard to get by just upon a smile." Well this was a *very* eventful week. It started out with wedding stuff when Lance Thaddeus Carroll asked Lacey Baker to share the rest of his life with him. Funny story about the ceremony. So I was a groomsman, that stood right behind the best man, Lance's father. Lacey, the bride, had 2 matron's of honor -- her sisters. Now when the bridal party comes down the aisle, we all meet briefly and then the pastor takes the bride, groom, best man and the two matron's of honor up 6 stairs to the stage -- leaving the rest of the groomsmen and bridesmaids behind. Well during rehearsal the father of the bride noticed that the 2nd Matron of honor walks down the stairs from the stage to the aisle by herself. So I was asked if I would go up and meet her to escort her down during the wedding. I said, "no problem", misunderstanding completely. So during the wedding, when the Pastor, bride groom, best man and two matrons go up on the stage, I just follow them up for the duration of the ceremony. Yeah, I wasn't supposed to be up there. I got lots of "boone! what are you doing" whispers from the groomsmen, and a blank stare from the pastor -- but it was too late and I was committed. So on my after the ceremony, when I realized my mistake, the father of the bride congratulated me for "self-promoting" myself to the honor of best man. But the reception was beautiful. Lance and Lacey both have awesome families that have been really kind to me. Breck Brewer is his brother-n-law and we got along great. I also got to catch up with Ned Daze, Nathan Roberson, Nate Johnson, Adam and Stacy Harris, Brian and Kristen Triplett, and briefly saw Ashton Manley. He's pumped because the girl from Spain that he met last year and the both got along great is moving to Gainesville to do her PHD. Yeah, having known women from Spain (*cough* Maria Lorente), I can understand his attraction ;). But in all seriousness, I'm pumped for him. Nate Roberson is working hard for Value-Pak and Nate Johnson is working for -- and I kid you not -- Johnson and Johnson. Ned is seeing a girl from Gainesville himself and trying to find a job in jax rather than his previous one in Gainesville. Adam and Stacy (I guess I shouldn't say Harris yet) will be getting married in about a month and living in Jacksonville themselves. Brian and Kristen got hitched themselves last weekend and just returned from the honeymoon -- crap! I didn't even get to say to them "now the honeymoon's over..." The stuff you think up too late! Anyway they'll be in married housing at UF for a couple more years. I then spend Sunday and Monday seeing family -- aka Cage and Cole Abdullah (nephews), Cara, Skye (sisters), and Sadie Burleson (niece). Missed ole Chick (my grandfather) this time down, but we talk frequently. I also hung out with Richard Dubay and Ian Otto -- even caught up with ole Chiang-a-rang (Andrew Chiang) who started his job as a scab on society -- I mean lawyer -- this week ;) Ian is about to head up to Columbia International University to pursue a career in Music Ministry. Richard is still pastor'ing youth at Sunrise Chruch. We played ultimate frisbee (my first time since college) on Sunday with the Schreiber's and their extended "family" -- some of the neatest people that I have met. I also got to catch up with Scott Hopkins and his sister Elizabeth and his mom. Their older sister got "married on a whim" in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, which is crazy, I've actually never met someone who has done that until now. I also ate dinner at Ted's Montana Buffalo Grill with Tim and Eunice Song. It was very good, but I am proud of myself from refraining to point out that I have spent several months in Montana this year and have yet to see this restaurant up there. I also took a day trip down to Orlando and got to say goodbye to another close friend that is leaving for bigger and better things. Bethany Sedikk is moving to Philadelphia (I'm so jealous -- go Phillies!) to start a new career with The Maxwell Group. I helped her pack up for a brief time. The last 3 times that I have seen her has been when she was moving. She joked, "At least now I know how to get you to visit -- I just have to move." I also had a great "all you can eat wing dinner" with Tim McClary this week. He's busy meeting women on myspace and working for Northup Gruman. We went out to watch the Phillies and Nationals play, and when we sat down the TV was showing "fast-pitch little league softball". We had such a good conversation we never even changed the channel. At least that's our story -- I personally think Tim TIVO's the entire season. I tried to catch up with Nick Teeling, but homeboy lost power to his cell phone and we couldn't catch up. Oh well -- maybe next time. So you can see I accomplished quite a bit this week off. In many ways my time off can be just as busy (more way less stressful) than my job. Oh, I forgot to mention one thing. Anyone who knows my family knows that we have met the official requirements for being rednecks time and time again, but when we do something we do it right! This last week my mother had put in an above ground pool in our back yard. I affectionately call it Nash's (our dog) new water bowl. Between the pool and my dad's workshed (a small house itself) our once huge backyard is reduced to just enough space to allow Nash room to do his business. All we need is some pink flamingo yard art and a car on cinderblocks. :)
